Deaths among bicyclists younger than 20 have declined 88 percent since 1975, while deaths among bicyclists 20 and older have nearly tripled. Of the 817 deaths from cycling in that age range, recorded in 2015, 54% were due to lack of helmet use. In this report, you will find information about the brewery, what it means to be a B-corp certified company, and the steps the brewery has taken/plans to take to further their success in their eco-friendly business practices. The colors for this sustainability report were inspired by the interior of the brewery itself. I was inspired for this brand/concept from the aftermath of tailgates, where I consistently noticed a surplus of cups lying around on the ground. I wanted to create a brand for a product that would reduce the need for disposable cups, hopefully reducing waste output as a result. While researching, I found that there are many collapsible reusable cups marketed in the outdoor industry, but there aren’t many marketed towards the average everyday consumer. I also thought that the textures and colors would make for a bold and viisually interesting book cover that would draw viewers in. **This tree trunk was already dead when I borrowed it from a friend to carve into. I used the same font from my video template to say ‘JMU Libraries’ with their date of establishment (1939). It spoke to their origin, while also being a classic design that would look well on various materials. The design was printed on t-shirts, laptop stickers, tote bags, and temporary tattoos that were distributed to the student body this fall 2018 semester. As a fun addition for this project, I created a line drawing that I refer to as ‘Funky Faces’, which consists of a bunch of heads intertwined with books. The concept was that they wanted to welcome the class of 2022 to James Madison University with a short video, compiled of clips featuring students expressing what they love about JMU Libraries. They wanted the template used for the video to be something that the students could customize and write on, while also looking like it belonged with the pre-existing design brand of the library (which consisted of the font Bebas Neue combined with a black and white color palette). I chose a rustic font, stuck with the black and white color scheme, and left room for students to write in what they loved about the libraries. I also designed a poster board they sat out at the event to get participants, which incorporated some fun line illustrations of Carrier and Rose Library (2 of the 4 libraries on campus). The final video (shown below), that my director and other committees produced, features the templates I designed. The goal was that by letting them see the culmination of their efforts to get cash back throughout the year, it would leave them with a sense of pride and accomplishment, encouraging them to earn even more cash back in the coming year. I approached this project wanting the look and feel to be something different from what we normally did for marketing seasonal programs, so I utilized the less frequently used colors in our brand colors. I also wanted to let the data do the talking, so I kept everything minimal and playful, using organic shapes, pops of color, and simplified illustration.
